Garden Design Journal, the magazine of the Society of Garden Designers, has won Garden Publication of the Year at the prestigious Garden Media Guild Awards, held at the Savoy, London on 21 November.
The judges were full of praise for the design and content of the magazine. Their comments said: “The stories are relevant and about new and exciting concepts, the photography is exceptional and the writing is engaging; special mention should go to John Wyer’s regular column. The flow of the magazine is very well balanced with contrasting, pacey and informative pages with stunning full-bleed double page spreads that superbly display the work of some of our industry’s most brilliant photographers. The magazine is clearly targeted at garden designers, but its appeal must surely also be to a wider audience.”
GDJ editor Stephanie Mahon was thrilled with the award and paid tribute to the team behind the magazine. "It's a real honour to be presented with this award by the Garden Media Guild,” she said. "Garden Publication of the Year is a highly contested category and coveted accolade, and for Garden Design Journal, as a small trade magazine, to have beaten off stiff competition from such well-respected publications as Gardens Illustrated and BBC Gardeners' World, it means so much to all the team and, of course, the Society of Garden Designers. We aim, always, to produce a relevant, beautiful, enticing and informative journal that answers the needs of our readers, and this award is recognition of all our hard work. I would especially like to thank all our contributors, without whom we could not create such high quality content."
